What is Laser Cutting?

Laser cutting is a fabrication process that uses a thin, focused, laser beam to cut and etch materials into custom designs, patterns, and shapes.

Our Laser Cutters

Laser Cutters are available at both IRL locations.

Full Spectrum 40W Hobby Laser

Available at IRL. Capable of cutting and engraving thin woods, acrylics, and can mark metals coated with Cermark or similar coatings

Full Spectrum 90W Pro Laser

Available at IRL. Capable of cutting and engraving thicker woods, acrylics, and can mark metals coated with Cermark or similar coatings

Dremel DigiLab 40W Laser Cutter

Available at IRL2. Capable of cutting and engraving woods, acrylics, and can mark metals coated with Cermark or similar coatings

Provided Materials

1/8″ Baltic Birch plywood sheets

1/8″ acrylic plastic sheets

 

Ask for approval for any other materials from staff.

Software is downloaded on all lab computers  and can be downloaded for free on personal laptops.
